KARACHI: A six-day long workshop is being held in connection with the Hamara Karachi Festival at the KMC Building. The aim of the workshop is to build the youths’ confidence, particularly the students at university level. The City Institute of Image Management organised the workshop.
Acting City Nazim Nasreen Jalil while addressing the participants on Monday said she was confident that the youths of the city have the potential to play a leading role in discovering new dimensions for creating a better society that will bring our country at par with the most civilised nations of the world.
Jalil further said leadership sprouts from a combination of one’s qualities and behaviour in life towards the people and society while leaders can be distinguished by the way they undertake responsibility.
The Hamara Karachi Festival is a platform for the youth that has provided tremendous opportunities for the students to study the attitudes and behaviour of people, she added.
Talking to Daily Times, City Council Mother and Child Health Chairwoman Dr Nikhat Shakeel Khan said that the purpose of conducting these workshops was to provide the youth, especially students, with direct access to practical learning of people’s behaviour so that they can develop potential to be leaders in their particular fields.
Cultured and disciplined attitude reflects the qualities of a leader and these are produced through a continuous learning process using direct learning methods. Leadership has been mistakenly limited to politics, which is not the true definition of the word, commented Khan.
It is pertinent to mention that around 1,300 students have been enrolled online while 240 students have been selected for the workshops with 40 students per workshop per day. Sindh Youth Affairs Minister Faisal Ali Sabzwari and Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro will patronise the remaining days of the workshops. All leading educational institutes of the city including University of Karachi, Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology, Dow University of Health Sciences, PAF-KIT, Muhammad Ali Jinnah University, Bahria University, DEWA University, Jamia Millia College, Government Commerce College and Saint Patrick’s College along with various others participated in the workshops.
Earlier, Jalil addressed the audience at the historically acclaimed act ‘Taleem-e-Balighan’, held under the Hamara Karachi Festival, which was staged at Jehangir Kothari Parade in Clifton on Sunday night.
In her address, Jalil said that only the nations who are aware of their national heritage can protect it and in this regard, the Hamara Karachi Festival has played a positive role. The festival has promoted cultural traditions and heritage and the festivities have attracted every ethnic and cultural entity towards the concept of reviving ancient trends in the city.
Jalil further said that the Hamara Karachi Festival has now become a landmark in the history of the city and has sent a message across the globe. Noted dramatist Khwaja Moeenuddin wrote ‘Taleem-e-Balighan’ in 1954 and it was first telecast on state television in 1971. The reproduction at Kothari was directed by Faysal Malik and will continue till March 6. Theatre actors including Faysal Malik, Shahzeb Waheed Khan, Hamid Malik, Asif Ali Maqsood, Khayyam, Naila Jaffery, Dilawar and Kameel performed in the act.
